HAMLIN SPEEDWAY NEWS
Hamlin, PA - Hamlin Speedway Welcomes All Race Teams With Expanded Pit Parking For "Bug" Day On April 14th
By: Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media
The favorable weather conditions of the past Winter has enabled the hard-working Hamlin Speedway track staff to get a jump-start on the new racing season just ahead for the premier racing attraction in the Pocono Mountains. Promoters Randy and Denise Smith quickly became aware the pit area needed expansion after the very successful drivers and owners meeting in early February with all 138 parking spaces going quickly to the more than two hundred people who came out for the annual track meeting. Wasting no time, the track staff quickly went to work to add more parking for the many race teams who have committed to being regulars at the speedway for the new 2012 racing season ahead. The interest was extremely high at the meeting and has become even more pronounced as the race teams put in the final preparations to button down their cars for the initial "Bug" day scheduled at the speedway on April 14th with the gates opening up at 1 PM and practice going from 2 to 6 PM. There will be a $15.00 fee for the pit pass on April 14th but no entry fee is required for the initial session for the drivers to test and tune their race cars in preparation for opening night April 21st. The 2012 racing season will serve as the seventh year in sequence for the Smith Family at the helm of the popular multi-division speedway and all indications for another banner season is highly anticipated.
The announcement of the Smith Fabrications/Stage One Modified division coming on board as a new division at the speedway for the 2012 racing season has created a new buzz and excitement and has many drivers weighing out their options as to which path to take when they go racing in 2012. The Stage One Modifieds have been on various racing circuits since 2007 and will be a welcome addition to the already great racing found at Hamlin every Saturday night. The Stage One Modifieds are a small scale model of the Northeastern Modified division and powered by Briggs and Stratton powerplants and fabricated by former Northeastern Modified great "Rapid" Richie Smith. The addition of the growing class of race cars will add yet another dimension to the already great speedway driving roster and the early indication from the racers is finding much interest from those who are seeking a new class to compete with. Hamlin regularly draws participants from a six state area and in looking at the updated parking map indicates the same great racing talent will be in the starting field when the new season gets underway.
Topics that were finalized at the February meeting included that **Hans Devices will be mandatory for all competing Wingless 600cc Micro Sprint classes (or a full containment seat), no top lube in the fuel for the 600 Micros and no handicapping. Promoters Denise and Randy Smith have always welcomed all racers and will leave the welcome mat displayed for all racers who have yet to decide on their speedway of choice for the new season ahead. The landscape surrounding various raceways in the Northeast has changed drastically from the close of the 2011 racing season and the successful Hamlin Speedway promotional team has proven time and time again to present some of the best racing available for small car division racing and each show is professionally produced with a great working staff on board to insure the success and the excitement of each passing week. There is a series of special events dotting the 2012 racing schedule with May 5th being the first with the Wingless 600 Micros racing for $750.00 to win. One of the premier events of the season will unfold on July 7th with the running of the St Jude's Children's Hospital Firecracker 100 that will offer up the sum of $2,000.00 to the winner if the 45 car entry list is met. Rode Racing is spearheading the advance work for this superb event and more information regarding the logistics will follow shortly. The final event of the regular season will be the Slingshot Nationals and Junior Slingshot Nationals on September 15th and there will be many additional specials events throughout the aggressive racing schedule set in place at the speedway.
