When the new tire comes out will they be mandatory for 2012. Will the old ones still be legal. How about will the old rims still work. I know their saying the fronts will be higher and wider any word on what the rr will be.

The new tires aren't supposed to be mandatory for 2012. I think when they finally get here they will be tested out and sold until they run out. You should still be able to use the old rims but i think the wide ones will be the only thing that will fit without making the tire round on the profile. The current Duro tire is staying as the RR. The real question will be how will the new tires affect the handling of the cars. Also being taller there will be gear changes to be made as the rolling resistance of the tire will be higher. How long between shipments from China will we have to wait for tires? Tires have been nothing short of a nightmare question mark the past year or so between the 8.50 going away and guys trying to run the Duro but running out of them and being stuck. Then i see other teams with 6 mounted RR tires in their trailers so they can have that 1/4" of stagger difference. Its not that i want to see a treaded Hoosier or other brand of "race" tire on these cars but something that is much more widely available even between brands like the Highway rated Sawtooth tire on all surfaces. It will hold up to any surface and numerous brands have a very very similar tread pattern. It is such a hard tire that the tread shouldn't "hook up" and it is available in 18x8.5-8 as well as 16x6.5-8 sizes.
